IT Manager

The IT Manager will be the primary point of contact for all internal technology needs, acting as both a strategic planner and a hands-on technical expert. This role is crucial for ensuring our team has the reliable, secure, and high-performance IT environment required to focus on breakthrough computer vision development and deployment. You'll be responsible for managing day-to-day IT operations, supporting our team, and establishing best practices for security and infrastructure scaling. This role is Manchester based, and it is expected that the successful candidate is on-site at least 3 days per week.

What You’ll Do

Infrastructure & Operations

  • Manage, maintain, and improve all internal IT infrastructure, including servers (on-prem and cloud-based), networking equipment, Wi-Fi, and data storage systems
  • Oversee and administer core SaaS platforms (e.g. Microsoft 365, Slack, Atlassian Jira/Confluence)
  • Manage the procurement, deployment, and lifecycle of all end-user hardware (laptops, monitors, peripherals, etc.) for macOS, Windows and Linux environments

Security & Compliance

  • Review, update, and enforce IT security policies, including access control, password management, and data backup/disaster recovery protocols.
  • Manage endpoint security across all devices, ensuring robust anti-malware and patch management strategies are in place
  • Manage regular security audits and vulnerability assessments to protect sensitive IP and company data

Support & Training

  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 technical support (help desk) for all employees, resolving hardware, software, and network issues efficiently
  • Onboard and offboard employees, ensuring timely and secure access to necessary systems and resources
  • Create and maintain clear, accessible documentation for IT systems, procedures, and self-help guides for employees

Strategy & Budget

  • Develop and manage the annual IT budget, optimising costs for hardware, software licenses, and cloud services
  • Plan and execute IT projects to support company growth, such as office moves, system upgrades, or new tool implementations
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies and solutions that can improve team productivity and data security

What We’re Looking For

You’ll succeed in this role if you have:

  • 3+ years of experience in a hands-on IT support, System Administrator, or IT Manager role, ideally within a fast-paced technology or startup environment
  • Strong technical proficiency across macOS, Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Deep understanding of networking principles (TCP/IP, VPNs, Firewalls, Wi-Fi
  • configuration)
  • Experience administering cloud identity and productivity suites (e.g. Microsoft 365/Entra ID)
  • Proven ability to manage IT security practices, including endpoint protection, data backup, and access control
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills with a strong customer service orientation

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have)

  • Experience supporting R&D or engineering teams with specific high-performance
  • computing needs (e.g., Linux, GPU workstation setup, large dataset storage)
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks relevant to software/data companies (e.g. ISO27001)
  • Experience with Ubiquiti networking technology (Wireless and VPN)
  • Experience with Cloud infrastructure (MS Azure)
  • Experience managing MDM (Mobile Device Management) solutions (e.g. Jamf, Intune)
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator, or similar
