About us
Encord is the universal data layer for AI that helps 300+ AI teams train and run models on the right data. Our platform indexes, curates, annotates, and evaluates data across the full AI lifecycle, from development through production.
Trusted by Woven by Toyota, AXA, UiPath, Zipline, and more. We're an ambitious team of 100+ working at the frontier of AI and have raised $60M in Series C funding from Wellington Management, CRV, Next47 and Y Combinator.
The role
We need a Senior Product Designer who can tackle one of the hardest problems in AI tooling: making powerful, flexible systems feel simple and intuitive.
You'll be designing configuration interfaces that balance flexibility for technical users with accessibility for non-technical annotation managers, multimodal workflows where any data type works together seamlessly, scale-aware patterns that work across millions of tasks, and complex data visualisation for AI model evaluation, data quality, and workflow analytics.
What you'll do
- Design simple, flexible, and scalable systems that adapt to diverse use cases — thinking in holistic journeys built by components, patterns, and states, not just individual screens
- Leverage AI tools like Claude Code or Cursor to prototype and ship production-ready interfaces, pushing changes to prod and unblocking yourself to get work in front of users
- Dig into real customer problems, explore multiple approaches, and advocate for the right solution — owning the full journey from user research to shipped feature, including edge cases and error states
- Work closely with product and engineering to create comprehensive designs that inspire the team to build, gathering cross-functional feedback while maintaining design conviction
- Mentor other designers, contribute to and evolve the design system, and raise the bar for design quality across the platform
Who we're looking for
- 6+ years designing product experiences in B2B SaaS, preferably at start-ups, with deep experience in at least one of: dev tools, highly interactive editors, technical workflow software, or data/ML platforms
- Expert proficiency in Figma and AI prototyping tools
- Strong opinions and intuition about what makes experiences feel right — you notice when transitions are sluggish, hierarchy breaks down, or a micro-interaction elevates a flow
- Sharp judgement about where quality defines the experience and where iteration beats perfection, with the ability to articulate design decisions and trade-offs clearly
- Comfortable using AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, v0) to prototype and ship production code
- Excited by complexity and see it as a design challenge
- Care about the details that separate "good enough" from "great"
Experience requirements
- 6+ years of product design experience in B2B SaaS, with a portfolio that demonstrates systems-level thinking — components, patterns, and states — not just polished individual screens
- Deep experience designing in at least one of the following domains: developer tools, highly interactive editors, technical workflow software, or data/ML platforms; familiarity with the constraints and expectations of technical users is essential
- Expert proficiency in Figma, including the ability to build and maintain scalable design systems and component libraries
- Demonstrated ability to use AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, v0, or equivalent) to prototype and ship production-ready interfaces independently — you don't wait for engineering to validate ideas
- Proven end-to-end design ownership: from user research and problem framing through to shipped features, including edge cases, error states, and post-launch iteration
- Strong communication and design advocacy skills — you can articulate decisions and trade-offs clearly to engineers, product managers, and senior stakeholders, and hold conviction under pressure
- Experience mentoring other designers and contributing meaningfully to a shared design system
- Bonus: Prior experience with data visualisation, complex annotation interfaces, or multimodal workflows; exposure to AI/ML products or platforms; experience shipping frontend code in addition to design artefacts
